REENTRY NAVIGATOR
April Britt is an established Peer Support Specialist.
April looks at everyday as an opportunity to learn something new. This outlook helped her navigate her way through a 17 year sentence that she describes as: “17 years of learning to do the right thing, so I can give back to the community for the things I took away”. Navigating support systems can become overwhelming for someone experiencing reentry. It’s easy for people to get discouraged during the process, to give up. April assists people with obtaining important records, managing appointments, assisting with looking for employment, housing, and other basic needs. She uses her listening and networking skills to help people find the programs and community support systems that work best for them. Her trauma informed approach for reentry navigation is a simple, but an impactful one: helping people find their smile again and taking each challenge that presents itself one day at a time, one person at a time. She enjoys helping people find their home, because she understands how important it is to feel safe during the process of reentry. She believes people can change, as she is the living evidence of what can happen when people are given opportunity to do good for their community and supported in doing so.
